Frequently asked questions

What to know about a mobile, radiation-free REMS® bone scan in Western Washington, from booking to results.

ABOUT THE REMS SCAN

What is a REMS scan?

REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) is a radiation-free ultrasound technology that assesses bone density, bone quality (Fragility Score), and your estimated 5-year fracture risk. It works by analyzing how sound moves through the bone — looking at more than density alone.

How is it different from a DEXA scan?

A DEXA scan uses low-dose X-rays in a fixed hospital or clinic and reports bone density only.

REMS uses ultrasound — so there's no radiation — and adds a bone-quality Fragility Score and fracture-risk insight.

It's highly reproducible for tracking changes over time, it's safe for more people (including during pregnancy, and those with scoliosis or osteoarthritis), and we bring it to you with same-day results.

REMS adds information a density scan alone can't provide.

What does the scan measure?
  • Bone density,

  • bone quality (Fragility Score)

  • your estimated 5-year fracture risk.

Is REMS safe? Does it use radiation?

Yes, it's safe. REMS uses ultrasound, not X-ray — so there's no radiation, no injection, and no compression.

It's FDA-cleared and safe to repeat at any age, including during pregnancy, and for people who may not be candidates for DEXA.

Is the scan painful?

No. You lie comfortably face-up while a small probe moves gently over your lower spine and hip. If you have abdominal sensitivity, you might feel slight pressure during the spine scan. There's no recovery time.

No referral is needed. If you'd like, we can send your results directly to your healthcare provider.

How do I book?
  • We scan year-round at our Port Orchard office, so you can book a visit any time that works for you.

  • You can also schedule a complimentary consultation on our booking page to talk through your options before you commit to a scan.

  • Public scan events are opening soon at multiple locations. Join the waiting list and we'll notify you when one is near — and the more interest we see in an area, the sooner we can bring an event there.
